Women's History Month at Emory, March 2000
The Women We Come From

In March every year, the Emory Women's Center sponsors a wide-ranging celebration of Women's History Month. Attracting nationally recognized keynote speakers such as the Boston Women's Health Collective, Michael Kimmel, Naomi Wolf, Rebecca Walker, Faye Wattleton, Lani Guinier, Wilma Mankiller, Natalie Angier, Carol Moseley Braun, Rachel Simmons, and Helen Thomas.

Women's History Month events at Emory open a window onto women's cultural, intellectual and social lives.

Keynote Speaker: Chief Wilma Mankiller, the esteemed matriarch of the Cherokee Nation spoke at Emory for Women's History Month. Mankiller is the first principle chief of the Cherokee Nation. Since stepping down as chief, she has been devoting her energy to the rights of Native Americans and women. Wilma Mankiller is also the author of several books including Mankiller: A Chief and Her People, and The Reader's Companion to U.S. Women's History.

Mankiller was the Keynote Speaker for Women's History Month at Emory on Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Cannon Chapel. A book signing and reception followed.
