Women's History Month at Emory - March 2007
Bridging Generations: Women Moving Forward

In March every year, the Center for Women sponsors a wide-ranging celebration of Women's History Month, attracting nationally recognized keynote speakers such as the Naomi Wolf, Rebecca Walker, Faye Wattleton, Lani Guinier, Wilma Mankiller, Natalie Angier, Carol Moseley Braun, Rachel Simmons, Helen Thomas, Julianne Malveaux, and Margaret Edson.

Keynote Event: "Solitude of Self: A Reading and Celebration of Elizabeth Cady Stanton" with Vivian Gornick and Jan Freeman. The keynote address is named for the speech the suffragist considered her most important achievement. Gornick and Freeman will celebrate Stanton's life and contributions to the women's movement through biographical information and contemplation. In this unusual presentation, Freeman will talk about Stanton's life and lifework. Gornick will then read passages from her book-length biographical essay and contemplation about Stanton, The Solitude of Self:Thinking about Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Freeman will then follow with excerpts from Stanton's 1892 speech, which is as useful and necessary today as it was then.

"Making a Way When There Is No Way: Women & Disabilities," a presentation and discussion with Nancy Eiesland.

University Worship, Women's History Month Sunday Celebration with Jan Love, Dean of Candler School of Theology. 11 AM, Cannon Chapel. Sponsored by Emory Office of the Dean of the Chapel and Religious Life and the Center for Women.

"Sunday at the Museum with Esther," a special viewing of "Through the Eye of the Needle: Fabric of Survival," spectacular embroidered panels by Holocaust survivor Esther Nisenthal Krinitz. Gallery talk, reception and special presentation by Pola Arbiser, a hidden child of the Holocaust. A Cross-Cultural Dance Performance by Taal Soul -- Taal Soul will perform three dances---belly dancing, African dance and flamenco. Please join!
