Women's
History Month at Emory, March 1997 In March every year, the Emory Women's Center sponsors a wide-ranging celebration of Women's History Month. Attracting nationally recognized keynote speakers such as the Boston Women's Health Collective, Michael Kimmel, Naomi Wolf, Rebecca Walker, Faye Wattleton, Lani Guinier, Wilma Mankiller, Natalie Angier, Carol Moseley Braun, Rachel Simmons, and Helen Thomas. Women's History Month events at Emory open a window onto women's cultural,
intellectual and social lives. Keynote Speaker: Rebecca Walker, the innovative writer, activist, and founder of Third Wave Direct Action Corps, spoke as the Keynote Speaker for Women's History Month at Emory on March 4, 1997 in the Winship Ballroom of the Dobbs University Center. A reception followed in the Faculty Dining Room. Walker has been a contributing editor to Ms. magazine since 1989 and is a writer on such issues as relationship violence, reproductive freedom and sexuality. Her work has been published in various periodicals and several Women's and Black Studies anthologies, including Listen Up and Testimony. Her talk at Emory was entitled "Being Real: Young Women and Men Tell the Truth and Change the Face of Feminism."
