Emory's Lactation Support Policy
The Center for Women has long served as a source of information and support for nursing mothers. The CWE was pivotal in the creation of Emory’s Lacation Support Policy, adopted in 2007. We also led the effort to revise the policy in 2013 to reflect new federal regulation concerning the right of nursing mothers to have time, as well as a private space, to express breast milk while at work. Also in 2013, the CWE received an award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Women's Health, to implement the Emory Breastfeeding Education Project. The purpose of the project is to increase knowledge of Emory’s Lactation Support Policy (policy and resources) in order to encourage breastfeeding and support a more women-and-family-friendly work environment at Emory, and to provide education about breastfeeding for mothers at Emory and in the community.
The Nursing Nest
The Nursing Nest is a lactation room at the Center for Women where nursing mothers can breast-feed comfortably or pump their breasts. The space has both Medela and Ameda breast pumps; mothers must provide their own kits. Visit us or email firstname.lastname@example.org for information about using our space. Expectant mothers are encouraged to stop by to take a load off their feet, explore a future resource, and look through our magazines, books, and other information related to parenting.
